Product Engineer
HybridDC Metro area or remote, USFull-timeCompetitive base plus equity, depending on experience
Build client-facing products end to end — Next.js and TypeScript on the front, Python and Postgres behind it — and put them in production inside a fixed-price engagement.
[ 01 ]The role
What this actually is
Most of what PropelAI ships is a working system a client's team uses on Monday morning: an intake portal, a dispatch board, a proposal generator, an internal tool that replaces a spreadsheet nobody trusts. You would be the person who builds those.
This is a generalist role by design. In a given month you might model a domain with a client's operations lead, build the UI, wire the integrations, and own the deploy. Depth in one area is welcome; refusal to leave it is not.
What you’ll do
- Design and build production web applications in Next.js, TypeScript and Tailwind
- Model and build the services behind them — Python or Node, Postgres, queues, third-party APIs
- Run deployments and own what happens after launch: monitoring, fixes, the second release
- Sit in scoping calls and turn what a client describes into something buildable in the time available
- Push back on scope that will not fit the engagement, with an alternative
What we’re looking for
- Four or more years shipping software that other people depended on
- Strong TypeScript and React; comfortable in a modern Next.js App Router codebase
- Server-side fluency — you can design a schema and an API without supervision
- You have taken something to production yourself, not just to a merged PR
- You can write a clear paragraph to a non-technical client
Nice to have, not required
- Applied LLM work in production — retrieval, evaluation, cost and latency control
- Experience in a services or consulting model with fixed-price delivery
- Familiarity with the operations side of field services, government contracting or associations
